Sunday is normally long run day, but I got a lie in today as I had been convinced to take part in the Blaise Castle leg of the Gwent cross country league, running for my new club Bristol & West (each finisher counts, so even trundling over last might be helpful). The sat nav got me close (as usual, I have tried a variety of postcodes to get to Blaise Castle car park over the years, they never quite make it) and I was able to park up and walk across with plenty of time to walk the course before the race. It was a large field (190 or so) of us in the Senior Ladies race, and lots of Bristol & West vests around. I tried to stay as close to Emma as possible, with lots of calls of “come on Emma, come on Bristol” since I am still new to the club and don’t know that many people yet. I finished right behind her in 87th place (no idea if that is good or not). The spikes got a much harder workout than before, though the noise they made on the stony parts rivalled the clicking of my feet and ankles. I hung around afterwards to watch the men’s 10km race and cheer on the team – damn the fast guys were fast, accelerating into their third lap of the course.
