A222 – week 8 – Modern arguments from the argument from design – and the problem of evil

This week was more unpicking of the argument from design as a proof of the existence of God, but post-Darwin and I’m starting to feel like I’m doing an evolutionary biology course with some cosmology thrown in for good measure. As someone who’s unpicked all of these arguments before it’s a little bit hard trying to come up with the theist’s rebuttals to the critiques of the arguments, something the chapter author is also a bit dismissive of. I wonder how a theist would have written the chapter. There was also a small section on the “problem of evil” with some (what felt to me) torturous wriggling to maintain existence of God in the face of suffering in the world.
