The second of the 5k Aztec West series races and I wanted to beat the official parkrun time from last Saturday as it was 10s too generous and would be showing as my 5k pb. It was a lot busier than the last race and I found it harder as I pushed myself to go as fast as I could. I had a good battle with Becci on the first lap and was sure she would pass me but somehow stayed ahead. My GPS had me as 4.9km when I crossed the line, so I had to have a little toddle around the car park to get it to click over to 5km. They had managed to give out two of my number, one with an official time of 20:03 and another with 21:19. I thought I had crossed the line in 21:22 but wasn’t sure which end of the funnel they were taking the times at. The 20:03 was Imogen and I am more than happy with 21:19 (a considerable improvement on my previous pb of 21:47 at race 1). Hopefully this bodes well for the 10k on Sunday, though there is no way I could maintain that pace over 10k. I have manually adjusted the Garmin time to the official time in order to log it as a record (it was 22:10 with pootling around the car park).
I also won a spot prize at the end, a £5 voucher to Easy Runner, and picked up my club crop top and hoodie.
