More psychological theories about identity this week, following on from the last week and hinted at during the recent tutorial. So to add to the psychosocial theories of Erikson and Marcia was Tajfel’s Social Identity Theory (SIT) and social constructionist theory by no-one’s owning up to it. A small section on disabilities at the end with a good bonus audio programme hosted by Peter White (a voice from my childhood as he originally worked on Radio Solent).
Looking forward to research methods next week.
Peter White has a voice that sounds like he is always smiling. I continue listening to really dull radio 4 programmes if he is presenting because I like his voice.
Also, therapy wise, systemic family therapy and narrative therapy are social constructionist in origin. Really interesting and useful concepts for therapeutic work, especially for me as I work with adults with learning disabilities. I love social constructionism. Your course sounds good.
I used social identity theory as part of the basis for my dissertation.
I’m really enjoying it 🙂
