House project – shelves

The cat pretty much ruined the carpet when we first moved in, getting all stressed out and peeing on it. Carpet beetles took a chunk out of a section, so part of the long term plan is to replace it (maybe with a wooden floor). Stage one of that plan is to get as much stuff off the floor as possible, so when the flooring people come in there is minimal stuff to clear. To that end, I ordered some custom cut floating wooden shelves. 30 of them. They will be fitted either side of the chimney breasts in the living and dining rooms and the old floorstanding shelves, computer unit and TV unit will be removed.

There was a substantial amount of swearing due to walls being not straight, bulging in interesting places requiring the purchase of saws, some of the alcoves were shaped like parallelograms. I also got to buy a new hammer drill after my cordless one rightly decided that it was all too much, and have an impressive array of bruises on the back of my legs from being pushed back into the ladder whilst drilling. But they are all up now and the old units disposed of via freecycle and the tip.
