I finished the first of the toe-up socks yesterday, and it’s nice. I really like the pattern, but think I’ll switch back to cuff-down. The suggested figure of eight start is really a lot of faff with dpns, I’d much rather just kitchener the toe however badly. I also don’t like binding off the cuff, it’s either too tight or too loose and wonky, I can contol the tension much better when I start at the cuff. Also, despite the heel being less fiddly (no picking up stitches) it has left little holes along the seam, which I’m not a fan of. I’ll just have to translate any toe-up patterns I like into cuff-down, which shouldn’t be too hard, but for things like this pattern (which features cables) may just mean that it’s upside down.
Up vs. Down continued
